Contraindications

Massage is non-invasive (except for G-spot stimulation). It is relaxing, stress relieving and generally considered a safe treatment for people. However, there are conditions which can make a massage inadvisable or even dangerous. These conditions are called contraindications and they can be split into three groups:
TOTAL, when the massage should not be performed at all;
LOCALIZED, when massage can be performed over any part of the body except the contraindicated areas;
MEDICAL, when massage can only be performed if medical permission has been granted.
Total Contraindications are:
- Recent consumption of alcohol or any drugs that will effect your state of mind.
- Fever or cold/flu symptoms.
- Contagious infectious diseases.
- Cancer (unless in terminal stages and then only with permission from a medical practitioner)
Local Contraindications are:
- Abrasions
- Areas of undiagnosed pain
- Bruises
- Cuts
- Inflammations
- Menstruation
- Pregnancy
- Scar tissue (two years for major operations and six months for local scar)
- Skin diseases
- Sunburn
- Undiagnosed Lumps or bumps
- Varicose Veins
Medical Contraindications:
- Acute rheumatism
- Any condition already being treated by a GP or complementary therapist,
- arthritis,
- asthma,
- bell's palsy,
- Cardio vascular conditions (thrombosis, hypertension,
- diabetes,
- epilepsy,
- heart conditions
- hypotension,
- inflamed nerve,
- Medical Oedema,
- nervous/psychotic conditions
- osteoporosis,
- phlebitis,
- recent operations,
- trapped pinched nerves,
If you suffer from any of these, I cannot perform a massage on you without written approval from a medical practitioner.
